Mentoring

Mentoring relationships focus on professional and personal growth through discussions on career pathing, goal setting, skill development, and overcoming workplace challenges. Common topics include navigating company culture, building networks, seeking performance feedback, and managing work-life balance.

There are many people in the Raleigh Section of ASQ with experience across many industries and areas of the quality field. Contact the Mentoring Chair of the section, Tim Whetten, at Tim@aligncollaboration.com.

Mentoring discussion topics can include:

  • Career Strategy: Mapping out long-term goals, identifying necessary skills for the next role, and discussing career paths.
  • Skill Development & Feedback: Discussing technical skill improvement, leadership presence, communication abilities, and reviewing work performance.
  • Overcoming Challenges: Addressing specific obstacles, managing difficult relationships, dealing with imposter syndrome, and improving time management.
  • Networking & Visibility: Identifying key people to connect with and building a professional reputation.
  • Personal Growth & Balance: Balancing work with personal life, discussing values, and navigating organizational culture.

Initial meetings often start with rapport-building, such as discussing background, professional experiences, and personal interests. The Mentee (person being mentored) is responsible for setting their goals and working towards them, while the Mentor provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback.
